Beginners Guide To Starting A Blog
I’ve been crafting since I was a child, so we can safely say a loooong time 😀 … I’ve always enjoyed making gifts for friends and family because when I was growing up we used to make gifts in our family instead of buying them because there certainly wasn’t a lot of money around, so we made the most of what we had. I always enjoyed crafting, but as I got older it really turned into quite a passion of mine. I really wanted to be able to “turn my passion into profit” so that way I could do more of what I love instead of going out to work in a ‘conventional’ job and struggling to find time to do my crafts.
I’m really pleased to be able to say that my crafting, which is my passion, is also my full time income! I know there are so many people that want to be able to do the same thing… And you can! 🙂
There really has been no better time than right now to “Turn your passion into profit!”
In this age of the blogger, it really is very easy to set up your brand new internet based business! Yes, it really is very easy to get started, and I’ll guide you through it step by step.
I started making money from my blog in the first month… Admittedly it was only £275… But it was enough to make me realize how I could build on it and turn it into something much, much bigger… Boy was I excited! And I still am!
It took me a long time to start my first blog! Well to be more precise… I wasted far too much time just thinking about blogging! I thought I wasn’t computer savvy enough to be able to do it… I was sure I would have to hire someone to build it for me, and then I would come along and post on it!
I really didn’t have a clue how it all worked, and that put me off even trying! I really wish I’d had this How to start a blog guide back then!
When I eventually took the plunge, I realized I could do it… And then I realized I can make a decent living from it too! And now, here we are a few months down the road, and I’m able to help you make that jump too… It really is very easy!
- I’ve wanted to be a blogger for ages, but I just don’t know where to start!
- I want to start a blog, but I don’t know what to write about!
- Why can’t we earn a living doing what we love?
- Why do we have to go out to work and spend 40 plus hours a week making money for a big corporation?
- Why do we have to go back to work and leave our babies for someone else to look after?
- Why can’t we work the hours we want, so it fits around our family time?
- I love doing crafts, but it will never pay the bills… Will it?
If any, or all of the above rings true for you, then you are in exactly the right place, at exactly the right time! I will guide you every step of the way to get your blog up and running with this how to start a blog guide.
6 months ago I didn’t have a clue how to build a blog, so if I can do it, then you can do it! Please don’t put it off any longer… My blog has changed my life and that of my family far more than I ever thought it would… We’re able to do more things together now because I work the hours that work best for us! I’m more content, because I’m able to do what I love doing, rather than going out to work just to bring a wage home… And… I earn more from my blog, than I did going out to work for someone else! It really can work for you too, you can actually start your business for as little as $3.95 a month! That is such a tiny amount to pay for a business that can completely turn your life around!
This is definitely not a get rich quick scheme! You do have to put the work in… But this is your adventure, so it’s up to you how much time you put into it… But keep in mind, the more you put into it, the more rewards you will get from it!

So, you’re ready to start your new blog right! Well the first thing you need to do is choose a name for your blog. This is your Domain Name, so put some thought into it now as this is going to be around for a long time. You might already have a name in mind, but if not here are some simple tips;
- Make it relevant to you and your new brand
- Given the choice, I personally would always choose .com before .co or .net because I think it looks more professional.
- Keep it simple with no fancy characters that make it difficult for people to remember.
- Imagine trying to tell someone the name of your blog when you’re talking to them on the phone… You need them to be able to get it straight away.
- Put the name into Google to make sure nothing comes up that you could harm your brand image.
- Once you’ve got an idea of your name, check to see if it’s available in the box below.
So now you have your Domain Name you’re ready to get your web hosting!
What is web hosting?
Well, simply put, it’s where your website will be stored on the internet by a company that provides the technology and services needed for your blog to be viewed.
The web hosting that I highly recommend is Bluehost! The reasons I recommend them so highly;
- I use Bluehost and have never had a problem with them.
- Their customer service is excellent if you ever need to get in contact with them.
- They are perfectly set up for blogging sites and by far the easiest to use.
- You don’t need to buy a domain name elsewhere (eg. GoDaddy or HostGator) and try and link it to your new website because Bluehost provide it for you free of charge 🙂
- By using the link here >>> LINK or any of the links on this page, you’ll receive a free domain (this is for your blog name) and 50% off, so will only pay $3.95 per month, (if you sign up for 36 months) and FREE WordPress installation.
- Learn how to start a blog now
The first page you’ll see is like this one. Go ahead and click the green button ‘get started now’
Select your plan … I recommend the basic plan for new bloggers as it’s such amazing value and really has everything you need … Including your free domain name.
The next page is where you put your domain name (in the box marked ‘new domain’)
Now enter your account information… All very straight forward.
Now choose the package you want. You have a few choices here and there will be some of these boxes already selected. Personally, I don’t think you need any of the added extras ( I un-checked all the boxes) because WordPress have some great free plugins that do the same things (we’ll move on to those later) but if you feel you need any of them then go ahead. You will need to choose which account plan you want…
Basic 12 month price – $5.45 per month = Total $65.40
Basic 24 month price – $4.95 per month = Total $118.80
Basic 36 month price – $3.95 per month = Total $142.20
You choose which plan is best for you… I decided that this was my business, and I’m in it for the long haul, so I went for the 36 month plan at the best rate of $3.95 a month. I considered $142.20 to be a very small investment to start my new business venture
Now put in your payment details.
(If you click on where it says ‘more payment options’ It also give you the option to pay by Paypal if you prefer that method)
Then read and accept the terms and conditions and click the green submit button!
YEAA! Congratulations you did it!
So now go and make yourself a coffee and chill for about 10 minutes while Bluehost set up your new account for you… They’ll send you an email when they’re done and you can then move on to the next step, which is installing WordPress.org so you can start building your new blog… I was super excited at this point! 😀 (and a little nervous still)
Once you get your email from Bluehost, you’ll be able to create your password and that will then take you to the next screen where you can start start building your website 🙂
This page will open up when you log in with your new password… Scroll down to ‘website builder’ and then click on the ‘Install WordPress’ Icon. (Arrowed below)
You might see an options box open up to pay for installation help, but that isn’t necessary; just skip these extras by clicking on the “No Thanks” button.
The next screen will ask for your domain name, your admin username and password… Enter those details… confirm that you agree with the terms and conditions, then click ‘install now.’ It may take a few minutes for installation to complete
It’s a good idea to view your credentials once the install is done so that you can write down the admin username and password for future reference. (You should also receive a confirmation email with this same information) You can change these later to something more memorable, but you will need them the first time you logging in.
On the same page where you reviewed your credentials, click on the admin URL link and that will take you to your new website control panel.
You can also get to your control panel by putting your URL into your browser
And that’s that part of your new website all done! Congratulations on your new website!
This is where you can take some time looking around and getting used to your Dashboard (this is also known as the back-end of your website)
